The next event

Date:    25 February

Times:  17.30 - 20:00*

Venue:  Christian Aid Head Office, 35 Lower Marsh, Waterloo, London SE1 7RL [map]**

*We must vacate building by 20:30 latest - but there's the option to continue in the pub!

**Please do not contact Christian Aid directly about this event. They have been kind enough to let us use a great space at their offices, but are not responsible for the organisation of the event and have got important work to do!

How we set the date

Feedback from the first NFPtweetup in November 08 was overwhelmingly in favour of quarterly events, so the next event is in February, then we'll probably aim for another in May, then August, provided there is demand.

We used this Doodle page to help us pick a date in February that worked for as many people as possible

The venue

We are delighted that Christian Aid has kindly made their 'Forum' available free of charge for the February event.  Many thanks indeed to Steven Buckley and Peter Berry at Christian Aid for their help and support.

The Forum is situated on the ground floor of Christian Aid's head offices in Waterloo, just off the main reception, and has a capacity for around 50-75 people, depending on the layout.  Plans at the moment are to keep this 'cafĂ© style', with groups of five or six people around small tables, to continue the informal, collaborative style of NFPtweetup.

Refreshments will be available during the event.  More information on this to follow.

Possible regional events

Discussions have been bubbling away about the possibility of holding partner events in various locations around the country, to coincide with the next London event (as suggested by Ed Walker here (see comments)), for those who would like to participate offline, nearer to home.

If you are interested in hosting, helping to organise or attending an event, please add details below:

London

Rachel I'm happy to keep looking after this one, but it would be great to have some committed support to help me do it.

Jonathan I'm happy to help

Amy Of course!

Sign-up to attend the London event here.

Northeast

Graham Richards and BullyingUK will have a go at a NorthEast Tweetup, most likely to be York or Leeds, as both have direct rail links to Sheffield, which makes it easier for people from S Yorks to get there and are also easy access for most of the North East. Graham and John are going to meet up to discuss venues soon and we will let everyone know once we have more info.  If you would like to help or come along, please add your details here.

Northwest

Hosted by Ed Walker at ULCAN - TBC. Who else is in reach of Preston and would attend one here?

Midlands

Jaki Booth has kindly offered to host this one and Michael Grimes will help her pull it together - thanks both! There are a few other tweeters in Brum, I think, including Andy Mabbett...  Who else is up for this in that area?

Southwest

Laura Whitehead and SteveBridger, could you bring one together in this neck of the woods?  Or anyone else interested?

[I could give it a crack, if someone wouldn't mind giving me a hand. Paul Whaley]

Southeast

Wondering whether South and Southeast could just be served by London tweetup, since it's in easier shooting distance for most people in that area.  I don't know any NFP tweeters in the Southeast that aren't in and out of London.  If you know any tweeters in this area, or you are one, let us know what you think.

Agenda and format for future events

Paul Webster shared some questions/ thoughts about the type of event on Twitter: 'headspin at moment on diffs between a tweetup, a geekup, a barcamp, a tuttle, a socmedcafe a nettues.'  (Here are some tweets in reply) Perhaps this is worth exploring as we consider the format of future NFPtweetups?  What do you think?

Thoughts:

  • Unconference (e.g. barcamp, amplified)

We have possibly started to go down this route a little bit and could continue to develop in this direction, as this is a good way to generate and capture thoughts and ideas to share (using flipcharts (photos of on Flickr), video, mindmapping, live capture on wiki etc. etc.).  This could create some great resources to be accessed by a wider audience.

  • Meetup (e.g. Tuttle)

Without any formal structure.  People just get together, network & chat.  Quite social, although people do still connect around professional interests and make contacts that they go on to collaborate with on projects.

It would be good to retain some structure, so there is a degree of focus, and to continue to generate content that can be shared with a wider audience that has some longevity.  Let's keep a relaxed, social element, and a degree of informality though.

  • NetTuesdays

Is there a way that we can continue with the NFPtweetups that doesn't just double up with NetTuesdays?

There's a certain dynamism to NFPtweetup, because it stems from Twitter and - if we can get live content, including tweets out there during the event, that people can engage with in real time - continuing in this vein offers something different.

I think incorporating twitter/nfptweetup into Net Tuesday could be fun but on the whole, the events are made for the whole spectrum of the community: people who haven't heard of any of these tools all the way to the people who built 'em.  I think it would be most helpful if it was a hands-on event so people could see how to really do it.  The events vary though with topic and style.  I'm sure we can figure something out and would love to look at it closer once we have the survey results :) (ASW)

More on the February - and future event themes - here.

Thinking about format...

I feel like I'm unclear on the goals for the NFPTweetups, and think that if we highlighted some specific goals it would not be a decision about what kind of format to go with because the most natural one to facilitate the goals would emerge.  If we are after creating live content and sharing it live, then we need an event style that will allow for that.  If we are looking for an exchange of ideas, conversations and connections, it's going to be a very different event than one centered on live content. And so on.

So, could people list below the goals for the events, what they hope to get out of them, and so on.  If someone has already listed the goal/s you have, just mark that you are also in favor of it.

Goals:

  • meeting Twitterati offline / face-to-face
  • sharing ideas, best practices, examples
  •
